Theme
People want to live, work and grow old in a community that cares
Creating more prosperous communities by caring more
(OR It takes a village to raise a child….and support her to age and die with dignity).
Back Story
“THE LONG ROAD HOME”. Most people used to age and die at home surrounded by family. After the Second World War, increasing prosperity, advances in medicine, and changes in the social structure of families (more people now living alone) made hospitals and institutions more attractive places for treatment and care especially as we get old. Health care systems however are largely focused on treating symptoms, curing disease, and preventing death through any means, which causes a different kind of suffering. The value we place on independence has meant too many people get sent away to institutions when they become dependent, and we lose access to their wisdom. It’s time for community to take back the best of what it used to be. This community is breaking down the silos we created and bringing care back home to community, where people feel best and get more of what’s most important to them. Using the best knowledge and technology we have today, we can create a better, more caring, future for all of us.

Back Story
Community reaching out to those who might need us the most, especially the most vulnerable and the hardest to reach, when life is especially difficult for them. We are taking responsibility as a community for figuring out what help people want the most, not just what we think they need, when they are clearly in distress.

Back Story
Everyone needs help – whether you are a new mother, a Fortune 500 CEO, an athlete, or a person who needs care. People are the experts when it comes to their quality of life and what they need to live well. Even the sickest people spend less than 10% of their day to day lives with professional care providers. Community can help with the social, cultural, spiritual and practical day to day challenges experienced by aging populations – providing truly encompassing care and organizing themselves around what’s most important to the person and their care partners.
